Where is Aspen?

Aspen is located in the state of Colorado and is the county seat of Pitkin County. Geographically, it sits 11 miles west of the Continental Divide inside the Sawatch Range of the Rocky Mountains and Elk Mountains. The city is also located along the Roaring Fork River.

The town of Aspen sits at an elevation of approximately 7,945 feet and is known as a ski town. According to a 2010 census, the town has a permanent population of 6,658 people. The town of Aspen itself encompasses 3.5 square miles and was first settled as a mining camp in 1879 during the silver boom in Colorado.
