What is the Samoan capital?

Since 1959 the Samoan capital has been the port city of Apia, located in the political district of Tuamasaga. Apia is the largest and the only "city" in Samoa. It is located on the central north coast of Upolu, Samoa's second largest island.
Apia was originally a tiny village; in 1800, its population was just 304. The original village still exists within the larger modern capital of Apia, now a sprawling urban area with a population just under 40,000.
With an economy that revolves around agriculture, lumber and tourism, Apia is the center of local government and trade. The geographic boundaries of the Apia Urban Area run from Letogo village to the newly industrialized Vaitele region.
