George Jones’ funeral was held on May 2, 2013. Jones died on April 26, 2013 at the age of 81 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center following an eight-day hospital stint for irregular blood pressure and a slight fever. His cause of death was hypoxic respiratory failure.

Jones’ funeral was broadcast live from the Grand Ole Opry on The Nashville Network, CMT, RFD-TV and GAC, among other stations. He was eulogized by a range of celebrities, including former First Lady of the United States, Laura Bush, and music stars Travis Tritt, Patty Loveless, Kid Rock, Brad Paisley, Vince Gill and Alan Jackson.
