The funeral of rhythm and blues singer Johnnie Taylor was held on Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at Good Street Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. The funeral was attended by over 3,500 people. Taylor was later buried at Forrest Hill & Calvary Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri.
Johnnie Taylor died of a heart attack on May 31, 2000, at the age of 66. Taylor's career blossomed in 1957 when he was hired to replace Sam Cooke in gospel group the Soul Stirrers. In 1996, Taylor signed an independent record deal with Stax Records. His hits include "I Had a Dream," "I've Got to Love Somebody's Baby" and "Who's Making Love." Taylor was known as the Blues Wailer and the Philosopher of Soul.
