A piercing studio in Chicago should ask for a valid photo identification and written consent for minors. According to the Illinois General Assembly Public Act 094-0684, it is a Class C misdemeanor to pierce anyone under the age of 18 without consent from a parent or legal guardian.
Additionally, minors are not allowed to be on premises while tattoos or piercings are being performed without the parent or legal guardian present. It is considered a Class A misdemeanor to do so. An exception to the rule is for ear piercings or for medical and dental procedures. Minors that are emancipated or married are also excluded from requiring consent, according to Act 094-0684.
