The golden rain tree, or Koelreuteria paniculata, is a flowering tree of the Sapindaceae family. The small- to medium-sized deciduous tree grows best in full sun and adapts to a variety of soil types and weather conditions.
The fast-growing species reaches 30 to 40 feet in height with a rounded spread of up to 35 feet. Foliage is typically dark green and turns yellow in the fall. The fragrant yellow flowers begin appearing in June and July. The aesthetic appeal of its flowers, leaves and pods make it a popular ornamental tree in the United States and temperate regions around the world.
