The "Golden Rule" is found in Matthew 7:12, when Jesus said to his disciples, "Do to other men all that you would have them do to you." It is part of Christ's Sermon on the Mount.
The term "Golden Rule" does not appear anywhere in Scripture. In Matthew 22:36-40, Jesus goes into greater detail when he explains that one of the greatest commandments is to love your neighbor as yourself. Psychologists and philosophers generally describe the Golden Rule as an exhortation to empathy, to seeing other human beings as an "I" or a self. Many other religions and philosophies contain variants of the Golden Rule.
