A good time to plant a burning bush is in the fall, if you want a burst of fiery red in your landscape. However, there is no good time to plant a burning bush if you want to avoid the pitfalls of this invasive plant.
Burning bush, which gets its name from its spectacular appearance in autumn, needs plenty of sun to "burn." Throughout the spring, it produces green and yellow blossoms. The shrub comes originally from Asia and is an alien species in the United States. In some eastern states, burning bush cannot be imported due to its ability to overtake other plants. Other pitfalls include its susceptibilities to coral spot canker fungus and tiny insects called sap suckers.
