When is grape harvest season?

The grape harvest season is in late summer and early fall, typically September and October. The precise time of harvest requires careful determination because, unlike some fruits, grapes do not keep on ripening after harvest.

Grape vines are typically planted in early spring. They grow best in areas where they receive a lot of sun and are allowed to grow upward on a trellis-like support. Grape growers do not let their new vines produce fruit for about two years. Their root system needs to be sturdy enough to hold the weight of the grapes. To inhibit the growth of fruit, buds are cut back when they begin to form.
