Green tea can be considered a diuretic as it contains caffeine. Caffeine is a natural diuretic found in tea, some soft drinks and coffee. Though green tea has only one third the amount of caffeine as coffee, there is a diuretic effect upon consumption.
Green tea is known for its many beneficial health qualities, including protecting the body from cancer, easing arthritis pain and fighting heart disease.
When choosing a specific tea, either black or green can suffice for these health benefits, as the leaves come from the same plant. Black leaves are the popular variety that is sold in tea bags and have the same antioxidant benefits as green tea.
