"Guanabana" is a Spanish name for the soursop fruit, a tropical tree fruit that is has an edible, fleshy pulp. The fruit originated in the West Indies and South America but is grown in tropical climates all over the world, as of 2014. It is particularly popular in Southeast Asia.
Because it is a tropical tree, the soursop is very sensitive to cold temperatures and cannot tolerate frost. There are several different varieties of soursop that range in flavor from very sweet to sour. Despite its popularity in warm-weather climates, the soursop is a relatively low-yield fruit. A tree only produces a crop of 10 to 24 fruits per harvest.
