What is the habitat of an iguana?

The common or "green" iguana is native to the rain forests of northern Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean Islands and southern Brazil. The largest lizard of the Americas spends most of its time in the canopy of the forest, descending only to lay eggs, mate or switch trees.

The reptiles grow to an average of 6.5 feet in length, and they are excellent swimmers and agile on land. The iguana is active during the day, keeping a strict vegetarian diet of flowers, fruit and leaves. Razor-sharp teeth, claws and a tail that may be used as a whip provide protection against predators.
