The hammerhead shark is found worldwide in tropical and warm coastal waters and near continental shelves. They may also be found in the adjacent coral reefs, lagoons and surrounding deep waters.
The hammerhead is a migratory shark that is distributed widely around the world. In the United States, it can be found in the waters along the Atlantic coastline all the way to Florida and around to the Gulf of Mexico.
In the Pacific, this shark can be found from California through Mexico and southward to Peru. It is also found in the Caribbean region, in the Mediterranean Sea from Senegal to Morocco and in the Indian Ocean from French Polynesia to New Caledonia.
