According to WebMD, Lyrica is a pain medication that is prescribed to treat pain resulting from nerve damage. Most often the nerve damage is a result of diabetes or shingles.
According to WebMD, Lyrica is also sometimes used to treat nerve pain that is caused by a spinal cord injury or fibromyalgia. It is also sometimes used in conjunction with other medications to treat various types of seizure disorders.
Patients who are prescribed Lyrica take the medication by mouth with or without food. Potential side effects include dry mouth, constipation, dizziness, weight gain, drowsiness, difficulty concentrating, and swelling in the arms or legs.
