What does HFC stand for?

In technology, HFC stands for hybrid fiber coaxial. It refers to a type of telecommunications network in which two types of cables, rather than just one, carry broadband content through a network.
An HFC network uses two cables: a coaxial cable and an optical fiber cable. The two are used together, but in separate portions of a given network, in order to send and carry content, such as audio, video and data. This type of network is advantageous because the optical fiber cable is used for the network's "backbone" paths, which allows the network to carry more data than with only a coaxial cable.
