A high school equivalency diploma is a certificate of completion of high school requirements that allows students to obtain employment or continue their education. To obtain a high school equivalency diploma, students must be at least 16 years of age and must pass the equivalency exam.
The high school equivalency program was created by the U.S. Department of Education and was intended for migrant or seasonal farm workers 16 or older. While enrolled in the program, students complete the requirements for a high school education or general education development. Students must also complete the equivalency exam and participate in post-secondary career and education activities.
