Panchang is a Hindu astrological calendar that notes important dates and auspicious days in the Hindu year. Also known as "Panchangam" in some languages, Panchang is a tabulated calendar formula that focuses on five important astrological points that occur throughout the day.
The five important points that make up Panchang are Tithi, which is a lunar day; Vara, which corresponds to weekdays; Karana, a semi-lunar day; Nakshatra, which is a star; and Yoga which deals with lunar-solar days. Determining when these five points are in balance helps Hindu astrologers determine which days are optimal for feasts, festivals or the beginning of important work.
