The king of Spain in 1492 was King Ferdinand V, also known as King Ferdinand II of Aragon. He was famous for funding Christopher Columbus' expeditions to the New World and for driving the remaining Moor forces out of Spain, uniting the country under one rule.
Ferdinand V was crowned King of Sicily in 1468. The following year he took a wife, Princess Isabella of Castile. For the next 23 years, he struggled to keep his power. In the spring of 1492, he made a final push against the Muslim kingdom of Granada. Due to its surrender, he was elevated to King of Spain in its entirety.
