U.S. voters elected Richard M. Nixon as President of the United States in November, 1968. He also won a second presidential election in 1972. Nixon served as Dwight D. Eisenhower's vice-president from 1952-1960. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1946 and the U.S. Senate in 1950.
Richard Nixon only lost two elections in his life. John F. Kennedy defeated him in the 1960 presidential election and he lost the race for governor of California in 1962.
Nixon was implicated during the infamous Watergate scandal and subsequently resigned under pressure from the presidency on Aug. 9, 1974. He is the only president in the history of the United States to resign.
