Is there a national turtle day?

While there is no national turtle day, there is a World Turtle Day, which is celebrated every year on May 23. The American Tortoise Rescue, an animal rescue organization, has sponsored World Turtle Day every year since 2000.

The purpose of World Turtle Day is to encourage people to learn more about turtles and tortoises, especially when it comes to protecting them so that they may survive and thrive. Some people celebrate World Turtle Day by dressing up as turtles or simply by wearing green. Others attempt to save turtles on roadways, and teachers may incorporate turtles into their lesson plans to help raise awareness.
