The Huang He River, also known as the Yellow River, is located in northern China. It flows from Qinghai province on the Plateau of Tibet to the Bo Hai, or the Gulf of Chihli.
The Huang He flows for 3,395 miles, making it the second-longest river in Asia after China's other main river, the Yangtze. The population serviced by the waters of the Huang He is enormous. Its basin is considered the cradle of Chinese civilization, and the region that it drains is home to more than 100 million people. The Huang He's name comes from the yellow soil suspended in the river's slow-moving waters. This soil gives the river a yellow tinge. The Hunag He has changed course at least 26 times in Chinese history.
