Hurricane Sandy began on Oct. 22, 2012, and ended on Nov. 2, 2012. On October 22, the hurricane began to develop in the western Caribbean Sea and strengthened quickly. It was classified as a tropical storm on the same day. On October 24, it officially became a hurricane.
Hurricane Sandy made initial landfall on Oct. 24, 2012, in Jamaica. On October 25, the hurricane hit Cuba and was classified as a Category 3 hurricane. Sandy then moved through the Bahamas on October 26, and on October 29, it hit the northeastern United States and caused an estimated 65 billion dollars in damage in 24 states.
