Hurricane season in Barbados runs from the beginning of June through to the end of October. Barbados is seldom hit by strong hurricanes, with no strong hurricanes occurring in the 20th century after 1955. The island also recorded strong hurricanes in 1831 and 1898.

Hurricanes capable of hitting Barbados begin off the African coast before moving through the Caribbean islands to the north of Barbados. Barbados may experience the rain from the edges of a hurricane. It can also be hit by former hurricanes after they have been downgraded to tropical storms, causing a higher likelihood of rain during hurricane season than during other times of the year.
