Iceland is an island nation in the North Atlantic Ocean. It's located east of Greenland, west of Norway and northwest of the United Kingdom. To the south of Iceland is the Atlantic Ocean, and north of it is the Norwegian Sea.
Iceland is the second largest island in the North Atlantic, as only Greenland is larger. It has an area of 39,770 square miles, and as of 2014, the population is 325,671, making it the most sparsely populated nation in Europe. Roughly two-thirds of the population lives in the capital city of ReykjavÃk. Despite its high latitude and proximity to the Arctic Circle, Iceland has a moderate climate because it's warmed by the Gulf Stream.
