The patient must usually pay all of the costs herself, including the cost of the surgery, anesthesia, hospital fees and pre-surgery fertility tests, states WebMD.

The procedure can cost more than $10,000, according to Cigna. U.S. government and military health insurance programs also deny coverage for the procedure.
