The computer mouse was invented by Dr. Douglas C. Engelbart. He invented the mouse in 1964 after attending a computer graphics conference.

Dr. Engelbart drew a sketch of the mouse, and his collaborator, William English, created a pine case model. The first model that Dr. Engelbart created had three buttons. At one point, he felt that the mouse would be more efficient if it had more buttons. A hardware designer credits English with coining the term "mouse" to describe Engelbert's invention.

Steve Jobs included the mouse with his Macintosh computer, and he left only one button to make it more manageable for users.
