Who invented the electric coffee maker?

The electric drip coffee maker was invented in 1954 by the German inventor Gottlob Widmann, and the device was called the Wigomat. Electric coffee makers did not become popular in the United States until the 1970s.

The Wigomat was named after its inventor and was sometimes sold as the "FK-1," which stood for a filter coffee machine. Widmann filed for an American patent in 1978, with Kurt Fischer listed as one of the inventors of an electric coffee or tea maker. The invention included a boiler plate that heated water and a duct that moved water from the boiler to the coffeepot.
