The Xbox game console, released by Microsoft on Nov. 14, 2001, did not have a single inventor but was rather developed by an internal development team. The members of Microsoft's first console team at its inception in 1998 were Kevin Bachus, Otto Berkes, Ted Hase and Seamus Blackley.
The Xbox was originally named the DirectX Box, and initial concepts had it run on Windows 2000 to make it easier for PC game makers to develop games for the console. The first public announcement of the Xbox console happened at the Game Developers Conference on March 10, 2000. Within three weeks of the Xbox's release, more than one million units were sold.
