Some Irish Celtic symbols are the Claddagh ring, the Brigid's cross and the shamrock. The Claddagh ring shows a crowned heart being held by two hands. It is a symbol of love, friendship and loyalty.
Though it is a cross, the Brigid's cross predates the coming of Christianity to Ireland. It is traditionally woven of rushes or straw and is the symbol of Brigid, a Celtic goddess who became a patron saint of Ireland after the arrival of Christianity.
The shamrock also has roots in antiquity, even though it is now associated with Christianity. According to folklore, St. Patrick used its three leaves to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity.
