What is ITAR certification?

For an individual, ITAR Professional Certification is an export compliance certification assuring expert knowledge of importing and exporting according to the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls’ International Traffic in Arms Regulations. A company is ITAR certified if it complies with these regulations and is registered with the DDTC.
As of August 2015, an individual must pass a four-hour exam in order to become ITAR certified. The exam includes identification and claim of ITAR exemptions, creation and enforcement of ITAR agreements, recognition of ITAR violations and export record keeping. Many companies require ITAR certification for any individuals working in their supply chains.
