Jaguars are agile hunters that hunt armadillos, squirrels, birds, deer, snails, capybara, fish, turtles and monkeys. The jaguar can hunt on both land and water, even catching prey right out of the trees.
The jaguar has superb vision and uses it to hunt at night. When a jaguar catches its prey, it crushes its skull. The only predator of the jaguar is humans who hunt the jaguar or kill it out of fear or to keep it from attacking livestock.
The number of jaguars is declining as habitats are destroyed and people hunt the cat for its fur. There is a possibility of extinction if protected areas aren't created for the jaguar.
