Japanese beetles live in Japan and North America. Native to Japan, the Japanese beetle was accidentally introduced to the United States in 1916. Since then, this insect has become a significant pest in the United States and is destructive to more than 200 types of vegetation.

The Japanese beetle is not a pest in Japan, as its numbers are controlled by its natural predators. The metallic-green body of the Japanese beetle features copper coloration on its forewings. The grubs of the Japanese beetle live underground and subsist on roots and stems. Adults are known for skeletonizing vegetation, as they typically feed on leafy material and ignore the veins.
