A Kalanchoe houseplant is a flowering succulent that is related to the Jade plant. If given enough light, a Kalanchoe plant can bloom in winter, similar to a holiday cactus or poinsettia.
The Kalanchoe plant grows from 6 to 12 inches tall, and its brightly colored flowers bloom for several months. A Kalanchoe does not require a lot of maintenance, but it is delicate. It needs plenty of light and soil that drains rapidly. It must also be kept out of drafts and above 50 degrees Fahrenheit at all times. If setting a Kalanchoe outside, place it where it will be protected from the rain.
