Kalanchoe luciae is a type of succulent plant. Because of the shape of its leaves, which have a grayish bloom and reddish-pink margins, it's also called the paddle plant or red pancakes. It's an evergreen that's popular in gardens.
The paddle plant is hardy to temperatures of 25 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit and can grow in either sun or shade. It needs only medium watering, and it can grow to a height of 1 to 2 feet and a width of 2 to 3 feet. The plant blossoms in the spring, when it sends up a stalk that produces yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers.
