Dell computers can be restored to their factory settings by tapping or holding one of the Function keys as the computer starts up. On most Dell machines, "F8" is the designated key, but on others, it may be "F2" or "F12."
Before attempting to restore a computer to its factory settings, back up all necessary personal files. Restart the computer, and begin pressing the Function key as soon as it starts up again. Push the key before the Windows logo appears on the screen. When the screen displays the Advanced Boot Options menu, select "Repair Your Computer". Follow the instructions to finish restoring the computer to factory settings.
