What kind of climate does Italy have?

Because of the great variety of areas of relief in Italy, the climate varies considerably from the north to the south. In the northern part of Italy, between the Alps and the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, winters are very cold and harsh, and summers are hot and humid.

The differences between winter and summer are not as apparent in the center of Italy, as the temperatures are moderate throughout the year. In southern Italy, however, the winters are by far not as harsh as they are in the north of Italy, and spring and autumn temperatures are similar to the summer temperatures in other regions of Italy.
