What kind of government does Brazil have?

Brazil is a federal and constitutional republic with an executive, legislative and judicial branches. The president serves a 4-year term with a chance at re-election for another 4 years. This is a similar to the United States, except Brazil has more political parties represented in its congress.

The Congress is comprised of the Senate, which is 81 members elected for 8-year terms, and the House of Deputies, which is made up of 513 members elected for 4-year terms. The number of deputies is directly related to the population of the representatives various states. These representatives can come from 15 different major political parties, which represent everything from democrats to communist.
