What is a Klipspringer?

The Klipspringer is a dwarf antelope species native to central and eastern Africa, ranging from Ethiopia to South Africa. The mammals measure just 20 inches in height and weigh about 24 pounds, on average.

The grazing animals live in rocky habitats, including mountains and river gorges, and survive on buds, fruits, grasses and leaves. The species typically lives in small family groups consisting of the breeding pair and their young offspring. Males bear a small set of pointed horns up to four inches in length, sometimes used to wrestle challengers for mates. Klipsringers use scent-producing glands in the face to mark territory.
