Where do koalas sleep?

Koala bears sleep in the eucalyptus trees of their native eastern Australia. They rarely ever leave the trees, sleeping tucked into forks or nooks for up to 18 hours each day.

When awake, koalas can be found eating the leaves of the eucalyptus tree, which provide all of their needed water. Koalas eat up to 2.5 pounds of the leaves each day, enough to take on the distinctive odor of the leaves that is similar to a cough drop. While the marsupials live an average of 20 years in the wild, the shrinking of Australia's woodlands could eventually pose a problem.
