Is Kosovo a country?

Kosovo is a country. Its formal name is the Republic of Kosovo, and it has been independent from Serbia since Feb. 17, 2008. Kosovo has a prime minister at its top position in government, and a president for chief of state.

The capital city of Kosovo is Pristina, and the country's official languages include Albanian and Serbian. As of 2014, Kosovo has an estimated population approaching 1.9 million, according to the CIA. Kosovo is in the southeastern part of Europe and is completely surrounded by land. Bordering countries are Albania, Montenegro, Macedonia and Serbia. Kosovo is about 10,887 square kilometers.
