Miniature shiba inus do not exist, as shibas are already a designated toy breed in the American Kennel Club. Regular shibas grow to be 14 to 17 inches tall at the withers if male or 13 to 16 inches if female.
Shiba inus are famous for being one of the world's oldest dog breeds. They were bred in Japan as far back as the third century B.C., where their small stature made them ideal hunting dogs in mountainous terrain that required agility to traverse. After thousands of years of establishment in Asia, shiba inus were brought to the United States in 1954 and recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1992.
