The largest living bird, as of 2014, is the ostrich. An ostrich reaches a maximum height of about 9 feet and can weigh over 300 pounds. Its eggs are 6 inches wide and weigh up to 3 pounds.
Ostriches' eyes measure about 2 inches around, making them the biggest of any terrestrial animal. Also, an ostrich has only two toes on each foot, while all other birds have more toes. The ostrich cannot fly; instead, it can run at 40 miles per hour.
The second-largest bird is the emu. An emu can reach a maximum height of about 6.6 feet and also cannot fly.
