The largest country in Africa is Algeria. This country has an area of 919,595 square miles or 2,381,740 square kilometers. Algeria is located is northern Africa and borders Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Western Sahara and the Mediterranean Sea. It is also the tenth largest country in the world.

The territory of modern Algeria was once home to many rich and diverse cultures. The Aterian, Capsian and the Proto-Imaziyen people all inhabited the area. The Phoenicians, Numidians, Romans, Carthaginians and many more also created their empires and dynasties in the area. As of 2014, Algeria thrives with an economy based on hydrocarbons.
