Florida law states that non-commercial trailers used for travel, camping or as a motor home can bypass a weigh station in the state, according to the American Automobile Association. Other trailers used to produce, store, manufacture or transport any food, agricultural or livestock products must stop at a weigh station.

All commercial vehicles or any vehicle that can transfer more than nine passengers cannot bypass weigh stations, states AAA. Passenger vehicles do not need to stop at a weigh station if there is no trailer attached.

If the vehicle is towing a rental trailer, it must stop at a weigh station. The total weight cannot be more than 10,000 pounds, notes the Florida Department of Transportation.
