What are leaves?

"Leaves" is the plural form of the word "leaf," and it has two meanings as a noun. Leaves are foliage that grow on a tree or plant. Less often, "leaves" describes additions to a dinner table that are put in to expand the table area and then removed.

As tree foliage, leaves typically bloom and turn green on most trees during the early part of the spring. A healthy tree has a lot of lush green leaves. At the start of the autumn season, leaves begin to change to a blend of different colors, and they fall to the ground.
