Where do lemmings live?

Lemmings live in the arctic tundra of northern Canada and Alaska. This is a treeless terrain with harsh winters. During the winter, the lemmings dig and live in burrows underground or under the snow.

Lemmings make their burrows with numerous tunnels. Lemmings even designate certain areas of their burrows to different functions of their lives. There are nesting areas where they give birth and care for young. They also use specific areas to store waste, to sleep and to store food. Lemmings eat plants, roots, berries and seeds. They have many predators, such as the snow fox, snowy owls, wolves and weasels, so they rarely venture far from their burrows.
