What is a life expectancy table?

A life expectancy table shows the average number of years persons are expected to live based on variables, such as gender, location and health care. As of 2012, World Health Organization charts stated that the global population’s life expectancy at birth is 70 years.

Life expectancy tables are also called actuarial life tables. The Social Security System of the United States has its own table, and it presents the average expected number of years prior to a person’s death. According to the Social Security actuarial life table, on the average, males aged 57 in 2010 are expected to live for another 23.69 years, while females can expect to live another 26.91 years.
