What is the life span of a maltese?

The Maltese has an average lifespan of 12 to 14 years, and females often live longer than males. Trauma, infection and congenital disease are the leading causes of death in Maltese puppies. Cardiovascular disease, congenial disease and cancer are the leading causes of death in adult Maltese dogs.

The Maltese has a long, silky coat that is pure white in color. It originates from Italy. Males grow 8 ½ to 10 inches in height, while females grow 7 ½ to 9 inches in height. The Maltese weighs 6 to 9 pounds. It does not shed much, but its coat tangles easily and requires frequent combing.
