What do lizards eat?

Every lizard species has unique dietary needs, because lizards are a group of reptiles spanning up to 6,000 species rather than a single species. Potential pet owners should research their species' dietary needs before bringing home an animal.
Lizards can be omnivorous, carnivorous or vegetarian. Bearded dragons are omnivorous lizards that eat crickets, mealworms, waxworms, baby mice (called pinkies), leafy greens and fruits. Jackson's chameleons are a carnivorous species that subside on crickets and mealworms as well as on other appropriately sized insects. Iguanas are a vegetarian species that eats only lettuce, kale, spinach and small amounts of melon, berries and other fruits.
