Most lizards are omnivores, however, what a lizard eats is largely influenced by its size. With over 3,800 different species of lizard, there is no set diet between them.

Smaller lizards, such as chameleons, geckos and horned lizards, eat mainly insects and small spiders. Larger lizards, such as whiptails and bearded dragons, are omnivores and can eat both insects, small mammals and even fruits. There are several species of lizards that are herbivores and only eat fruits and vegetables, including iguanas and the spiny-tailed agamid. Finally, some of the largest lizards are carnivores and eat insects, mammals and other reptiles. These include Komodo dragons and monitor lizards.
